I’ve been running a successful small online retail business I set up for about 4 years now and I’m becoming burnt out. The profit is easily $100k per year, with a tremendous amount of room for growth.
Requirements: The manpower required is 20-40 hr/week manager to handle emails and easy technical stuff, and an assistant to prepare items for shipment (2-4 hours/day). The area required is a large bedroom size to hold the inventory and supplies.
What can I do? Is there any sort of market for buying this sort of small-scale business? I have considered the amount it would take for me to walk away from this venture forever, and it’s in the range of $500k after taxes, but I doubt I would find a business willing to pay that much.
Should I try to set up an office and hand over the day to day operations? That is much easier said than done, but it may be my best option.
Generally, I’m getting burnt out and I can’t continue this forever. Any insight is appreciated.

There may be business brokers where you live or in towns near you that help business sellers and buyers get together. If you use a CPA for taxes or accounting work they may know someone who would be interested in buying an ongoing business. Each of these would probably want a commission for putting the deal together.

Besides Traffic Geyser, there is a free service called Tube Mogul. It works in much the same way. Additionally there is a software package I found called Tube Mastery (http://www.websitemarketingskills.com/recommends/TubeMastery) which works really well in terms of how to market on YouTube. The same basic information is true on the other sites, as well. Use your profile page to link to your site and use calls to action to get people to respond. I would just buy that program and familiarize yourself with it.

Visitors I do have have generally liked the design and functionality (although I do have some suggestions to work on), and given the low traffic, my conversion ratio is actually good. All of this suggests that I just need more people to know about it (not an uncommon problem I imagine!!).
On the internet side, I have submitted to about 200 directories, have a priority listing on a commonly used business search directory and have numerous successful art profiling sites which generate some traffic. Although an amateur I’ve also done things with stumbleupon, digg, delicious etc.
On the traditional side, I’ve had a free article in a local newspaper, and taken my work to various galleries, fairs etc.
I know there’s no one solution, but does anyone have any suggestions for low cost activities that have worked for them, perhaps if you have been in a similar situation?

First of all – you need to change your site slightly – both from a SEO and customer conversion perspective. Put what you do above the fold – ie on the first screen you see. Use key words. This will help get you better search rankings and let people who visit know what you do.
Secondly – start a linking campaign with other sites that may need graphics or your services. Write a nice email to each site saying that you have visited their site, mention something you have seen on the site so that they know you have and introduce your service. The whole email should be about 200 words long at the most and preferably about 150 words. This works is you target them correctly.
Thirdly – put your website link on everything – your emails, letters, car etc.
Lastly – offer talks on a subject to local clubs groups etc. If you convert well from the site this should work as well,
Radio, TV, Newspaper, Internet, I need people to come to my location and buy my products? What is the best way to get them there?
I started a Deck and fence company…the best advertising by far…even more than the yellow pages…. were Bandit Signs!!!! Not sure what these are??? small signs that advertise what you do and a phone #! FREE ESTIMATES will take you a long way…I used to put out 10-15 per week and get over 40 calls for estimates then it was my turn to sell myself and my company! BE AWARE…these are against the law in certain regions so be prepared to hear from your city’s Code Compliance Office! The best signs are made with Perm. Marker and Coroplast ( Corrugated Plastic ) attached to a wood or steel stake…Each sign should cost about $2.00…Good Luck and Make it happen…Don’t wait for others to make it happen!
